Fezile Gcaba opened the scoring for the hosts and it was his first goal for the club. The home side went into the halftime break leading by 1-0. Lebohang Nkaki levelled matters for the Rise and Shine through the penalty spot on dying minutes of the second half and his goal took the match to extra-time. Mfanafuthi Mkhize restored the lead for the Citizens. The home side went into the extra-time halftime lead by 2-1. Fezile Gcaba added the third goal for the hosts. Fezile Gcaba completed his hat-trick and also sealed the win for the Citizens. With this match result, Durban City FC are through to the quarter-finals of the 2025 Carling Knockout Cup and Polokwane City FC registered their fourth defeat of the season in all competitions.
