Both sides went into halftime break levelled at 0-0. Trevor Mokwena opened the scoring for the Citizens. Knox Mutizwa levelled matters for the Natal Rich Boyz and his goal took the match to extra-time. The hosts took the lead for the first time in this match through Mbulelo Nombengula and it was his first goal for the club. The home side went into the extra-time halftime leading by 2-1. Lundi Mahala added the third goal and also sealed the win for Natal Rich Boyz in the second half of the extra-time. With this match result, Richards Bay FC are through to the semi-finals of the 2025 Carling Knockout Cup and Durban City FC registered their fourth defeat of the season in all competitions.
