Lionel Messi opened the scoring for White and Sky Blues through the penalty spot. Angelo Di Maria doubled the lead for the White and Sky Blues. Argentina went into the halftime break leading by 2-0. Kylian Mbappe reduced the deficit for the Blues through the penalty spot. Kylian Mbappe equalized for the Blues and also took the match to the extra-time. Lionel Messi completed his brace and also restored the lead for White and Sky Blues. Kylian Mbappe completed his hat-trick through the penalty spot, levelled matters for the Blues and his goal took the match to the penalties. Both goals were scored on the second half of the extra-time. Argentina won 4-2 on penalties. With this match result, Argentina crowned 2022 FIFA World Cup champions.
