Both sides went into halftime break levelled at 0-0 scoreline. William Troost-Ekong opened the scoring for the Super Eagles through the penalty spot. Teboho Mokoena levelled matters for Bafana Bafana through the penalty spot and his goal took the match to extra-time. The scoreline remained unchanged on extra-time. Nigeria won 4-2 on penalties and Stanley Nwabali was a hero for the Super Eagles after saving two penalty spot kicks of South Africa. With this match result, Nigeria are through to the Africa Cup of Nations 2023 final.
